Product Details

A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain made in Chester by “John Troup and Sons” in 1902. The chain is made up of solid gold trombone links, a T-bar and two claw clasps which are all original. They have a bright rosy-gold hue and are individually stamped “375/ 9ct”.

Albert chains are named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.

It's a wonderful antique Albert chain with a good weight to it and is complete with the maker’s mark and Chester hallmarks.

We recommend you insure for £4,000. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
